Objectives, Activities and Membership

Our Activities

  • We operate an Advice Line, which is supported by a number of members who have recently adopted, and who are willing to talk to prospective adoptees.

  • We organise both national and regional events, where families can meet to share experiences and get to know each other. More formally, we run seminars on post-adoption issues, which are also relevant to pre-adopters.

  • AFAA produces a number of publications, the first of which - "Inter-Country Adoption" - concentrates on the process of the adoption. Other titles include:
      • The Homestudy Report
      • Adoption Bereavement
      • Explaining Adoption
      • Adoption Bereavement
      • Racism
      • Returning to the Birth Country
      • Adoption and Teenagers
      • Building and Maintaining Cultural Links

  • We produce a regular newsletter for members.

  • We are active in supporting UK Government departments, Social Services and Voluntary Agencies in terms of ICA.
