This booklet provides guidance to adoptive parents on when, how and what to discuss with their children regarding their adoption. It tackles children's understanding as it changes with age, how parents can help their children to share their thoughts, and the issues of adoption at school.

Adopted children need families who are committed to helping their child to understand their adoptive status, both intellectually and emotionally. Where children of different races join families, as in inter-country adoption, handling these issues becomes even more important. The booklet covers:
